The start of a race can be a tense time for everybody, especially when a championship is at stake.
Boats are closely packed as they jostle for the best position on the starting line or try and push a rival into a bad position. There is a lot of shouting as skippers push the rules to the limit for that small advantage.
As in most sports there is an element of interpretation within the rules and this can lead to some skippers “Seeing Red”. The famous red sails of the Mirror Dinghy add to the spectacle. I am on the boat to the far right having made a good start.

"Seeing Red" won Best Exhibit at the 2023 Perth Royal Show, and third in Art Quilts at the 2023 Quiltwest.
